Making It Snappy
My name is Abby Dollus, a rising Junior at Wake Forest University, and I am currently interning at the startup SnappyScreen in New York City. Now that my internship is in full swing, it is full steam ahead. My fellow interns and I have been making sales calls while balancing our individual projects. It has been so rewarding. Some of the areas that I am responsible for is the SnappyScreen Instagram account, marketing ads, and press releases. I have had the opportunity to wear many hats this week, making my internship interesting and never boring.
One of the tasks that we have been working on is calling a variety of hotels and resorts to set-up a meeting with their general managers. This has been particularly interesting because while difficult to do, it feels so good once a meeting is scheduled and we are able to put it on the calendar. This is one of the most rewarding experiences thus far. I am able to see the difference that my work is making at this company. Every call is a potential meeting which is a potential implementation of a machine. Everything that we are doing every day is something that is propelling the company towards success and expansion. I love that I am able to see this and be a part of it. I have definitely learned to celebrate the little things because it is these little things that come together to create something huge and impactful.
In addition to these sales phone calls, my fellow interns and I had the opportunity to go to the Cornell Club earlier this week to meet and connect with other Wake Forest entrepreneurship students and some of the members of the Advisory Council for the Center for Entrepreneurship. Although we had to brave the New York City morning rush hour in order to get there, it was definitely worth it. It was so beneficial to listen to my peers speak about their experiences while working at a startup and also to receive the validation and aid from entrepreneurs within the community. It was an experience that I am grateful to have had and to have benefitted from.
Although it has only been 2 weeks since I have started here at SnappyScreen, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and relationships that I have had access to since arriving. One of my favorite things about working at a startup is the close atmosphere that we have fostered. Going into my internship, I knew none of the three other interns that I was to be working with. Fast-forward to now and I am extremely close not only to my fellow interns but my managers as well. I have found a loving and supportive environment that makes me love coming to work every morning. It has been so rewarding to have been able to create these collaborative relationships with people that I am working so closely with. I knew that working for a startup would be different than anything I have ever done, and boy was I right! However, it has been an experience that I am excited to continue throughout the summer and something that I will learn a lot from!
