Written by Laura Roberts, #WakeEntrepreneur and Summer Intern

My name is Laura Roberts and this summer, I am working in New York City as the social media and entrepreneurship intern for Cat Perkins. Cat Perkins is an incredible luxury shoe brand. This brand offers stylish and comfortable shoes with removable Uppers, which makes traveling and packing for trips so much easier. You simply choose which wedge bottom you would like, then choose from a huge variety of Uppers that you can switch on and off, creating multiple pairs of shoes! I have always been interested in the fashion world and as an entrepreneurship minor, have always been interested in seeing how everything works in being a part of a startup, so this company seemed like the best of both worlds for me. I get to work in fashion, while also learning the ins and outs of an incredible startup company. I knew that I wanted to choose an entrepreneurship internship because I have gained so much insight through all my classes for my entrepreneurship minor, that I finally wanted to see all of it in action.

This internship requires someone who is very detail oriented, organized, creative, has great communication skills, and most importantly, is very skilled using social media platforms. In addition to great photography skills, this internship requires someone who genuinely loves fashion and wants to capture the best image for the entire brand, to further develop it. In order to do so, I have a few projects and tasks to complete throughout this internship. First and foremost, I am working on the social media for the company, creating material to post that will represent the brand appropriately on various social media platforms. I will be using multiple tools, such as applications called Later and Shopify, in order to manage and organize both social media postings and e-commerce. In addition, I will be writing four PR pieces about the brand and product, enhancing the role that the brand plays in travel experiences. I will also create a campaign for list building, learning the basics of branding, and creating two customer surveys to further gauge customer satisfaction.

As mentioned earlier, I am so excited to learn more about what it is like to work at a startup and how to capture brand identity in every work that I do. I am excited to learn more about copywriting for a brand in order to portray it in the best way possible, which will really improve the skills needed for public relations. I am really grateful to be working at an internship where I can do a little bit of everything, which really captures the spirit of entrepreneurship. Most importantly, I am very excited to apply all of the skills and things I have learned throughout my courses at Wake Forest to this internship, to gain hands-on experience doing so. I will bring value to this internship by taking on social media with a fresh new take and perspective. I know that I can accomplish the goals that this internship has to offer to the best of my ability, as I am a hard worker and have a passion for fashion. In the short time I have spent here already, I have accomplished so much and learned a great deal of knowledge and skills for both the fashion and business world. I am so excited to see what is in store for me and Cat Perkins for the rest of the summer!
