Written by Jackie Morris, #WakeEntrepreneur and Summer Intern

My name is Jackie Morris and I am currently in New York City working for SnappyScreen as one of the marketing and sales interns. I knew I wanted to work for SnappyScreen ever since Kristen (the founder) came to speak at Wake Forest for one of my entrepreneurship classes. I found her company so interesting and I really enjoyed hearing her story. I also really admired her work ethic and that she is a female entrepreneur. When the Entrepreneurship center sent out information that SnappyScreen was looking for interns, I knew I had to jump on this opportunity. I love working at SnappyScreen because Kristen and Katelyn are both young female entrepreneurs; it’s so different than other companies. Another aspect that excites me is that the company is still a start-up, which is allowing me to learn more about building a business. As an entrepreneurship minor, this internship has allowed me to learn outside of the classroom, which is so exciting. I have definitely learned so much about entrepreneurship this past year through the classes I have taken at Wake Forest, but also through my internship experience so far. I also wanted to work for SnappyScreen because it is in New York City, which is always a plus. I have been able to explore the city and other areas of New York through, which has been amazing!

I chose an entrepreneurship internship because I knew that I would have more responsibilities at a startup company rather than one that has been established for many years. One of my goals this summer is to learn more about marketing because that is what I want to do in the future. More specifically, I wanted to explore and figure out which field of marketing excites me the most. I have only just started my internship so I know that I will learn so much more about marketing over the upcoming weeks. Currently, we are working on planning an event in Montauk to help promote/ publicize SnappyScreen. We have been working on determining the venue, the budget, and who to invite. It has been a great experience working with the other interns as we all took on different tasks with planning this event. We have also helped with determining what the new bottles of sunscreen should look like and what needs to be included on the bottle. We are going to have the sunscreen bottles at the event and will have some giveaways! Yesterday, we also had a sales meeting, which required us to research different places and find hotels that would be a good match for SnappyScreen. That required us to call the hotels and ask for the general managers’ information along with how many rooms were in the hotel. We are aiming to target hotels that have 100+ rooms as that will allow for more customers. This is the sales part of my internship. I actually enjoy the sales part more than I thought I would. I enjoy learning more information about the hotels and gathering the information together. This has allowed me to learn about new locations and resorts. The past 3 days of my internship have allowed me to learn more about sales and I am excited to learn even more as the weeks go on!

I know I will bring value to this startup through my past internship experiences. I have had experience with marketing for other companies so I know that I do have some experience when it comes to the field. I am also very outgoing so the sales part of the job has not been a challenge as I am talkative. I plan to go to work every day with a smile and an optimistic attitude. I plan to continue finding hotels that would be a potential match for SnappyScreen. I also have some connections with general managers, which could be particularly useful for this project. For the event, I will reach out to Instagram influencers, which will help promote SnappyScreen and draw more attention to the company. Although I just started my internship 3 days ago, I am having a great time working with the other interns and I have definitely learned a tremendous amount about marketing, event planning, and sales. I am so thankful for the Entrepreneurship center and SnappyScreen for allowing me this amazing opportunity.
