In addition to the University Center for Entrepreneurship located in Kirby Hall in the Calloway School of Business, Wake Forest offers other centers and programs for aspiring entrepreneurs. Click on the links below for more information.

Partnerships for Innovation (PFI), National Science Foundation

As part of the National Science Foundation funded PFI, the Office of Entrepreneurship and Liberal Arts is using the unique expertise and capabilities of the university and community partners to create an infrastructure to stimulate innovative learning and knowledge flow, as a means of encouraging economic activity, creation of new wealth, and social well being in the Triad area.  This program links Wake Forest University to two major regional initiatives in teh Piedmont Triad: the life-science (biotech, medical devices, and related imaging and information sciences); and the design innovation initiative for entertainment, life science, education, product design, and product marketing.  The program also links student and faculty in a campus-wide initiative in renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Create transformational learning opportunities for students interested in exploring entrepreneurship;
  • Enhance entrepreneurship training an dexperiential learning opportunities for students within the liberal arts;
  • Facilitate access to knowledge and resources that will enhance the entrepreneurial learning experience through the development of meaningful and sustainable partnerships between industry and academia;
  • Communicate our vision to the creater community of liberal arts institutions and other higher education insistutions;
  • Serve a s a connecting link to two major economic development initiatives (Life Science and Design Innovation) of the Piedmont Triad Region of North Carolina; and
  • Create a structure and process that facilitates and sustains these outcomes.

The Program has six major components:

  • Innovative curriculum;
  • Mini-courses/Workshops/Speaker Events to provide students from WFU and other regional higher education institutions training in entrepreneurial skills, creativity, leadership, and industry-specific knowledge;
  • The Mentor Program to match students in the WFU entrepreneurship program with local entrepreneurs to expand experiential learning and create stronger ties with the local community;
  • The Liberal Arts Models Development to focus efforts on discovering, developing, and disseminating a more comprehensive understanding of successful educational models of venture creation, planning and implementation in liberal arts domains;
  • The Market Research, Prototyping, and Planning initiative to provide WFU students with modes financial resources to explore the feasibility of new venture ideas; and
  • The Experiential Learning Internships/Externships to provide undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to expand in-class learning with hands-on exposure to the entrepreneurial process.

The Program for Creativity and Innovation

The Program for Creativity and Innovation at Wake Forest University is an initiative of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Liberal Arts within Wake Forest University’s undergraduate Liberal Arts College. Lynn Book is the Director of the Program and is also Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Theatre and Dance. She has developed a program that features a critical creativity that is holistic, interdisciplinary and socially engaged. The Program seeks to foster diverse perspectives and forge innovative forms of creative practice and outcomes that result in constructive change in the world.

The Angell Center for Entrepreneurship

The Angell Center for Entrepreneurship is located in the Babcock Graduate School of Management. This center hosts a forum on family business for the local business community. It also provides MBA students an opportunity to engage in summer internships in entrepreneurial organizations, and to compete in a graduate student business plan competition.

The Babcock Demon Incubator

The Babcock Demon Incubator provides personalized services and relationships to growth-oriented, early stage ventures. The incubator offers both resident and non-residential support models. Incubator support includes business planning, investor introductions, linkages to entrepreneurial suppliers, faculty support when available, and consulting support from the incubator staff. The incubator can assist at all stages of business development ranging from idea development to team building and first round venture capital.

The Community Law and Business Clinic

The Community Law & Business Clinic is a new clinical education program within the Wake Forest University School of Law which launched during the spring 2009 semester. CL&BC will provide law and graduate business students with an opportunity to develop skills needed to practice in the increasingly complex legal and regulatory environment they will encounter as professionals. In addition, CL&BC will bring the resources and expertise of Wake Forest University to enhance community development efforts in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County and regionally.
