Entrepreneurship Minors Connect the University to the Community

Junior communication major Ben Comer and Senior psychology major Brett Apter were both meeting separately with Bren Varner, program director of the University Center for Entrepreneurship, on similar business ideas when it occurred to Varner that these two aspiring entrepreneurs might have a great deal to discuss.

“I suggested they get together and brainstorm about possibilities and see if there might be a partnership opportunity,” says Varner.

MySavu Logo What resulted from that brainstorming session was mySavu.com.  Brett Apter says, “this past summer removed any and all doubts about the potential future of mySavu Inc. Our goal over the summer was to communicate to the Winston-Salem business community how we can help them and why they should get on board with mySavu. We expanded our team of students at Wake Forest, allowing us to not only meet, but also surpass our summer goals. Hundreds of business owners throughout Winston-Salem have been trying to establish ties with the Wake Forest community for a long time. MySavu is now their solution. These owners have expressed a lot of excitement to show the Wake Forest community what all they have to offer. Most businesses are now offering incredible discounts only through www.mySavu.com.

The mySavu team has uncovered some of Winston-Salem’s local businesses that have somehow remained under the radar. Students, faculty and staff will absolutely love discovering these many local secrets. Our team of students has been working dawn until dusk in order to be able to confidently guide the Wake Forest community to university-friendly, as well as top-quality, businesses throughout Winston-Salem. If that is not enough, our website also gives students, faculty and staff the opportunity to save a substantial amount of money. Our next goal is to make sure that everyone at Wake Forest University is aware of the incredible complimentary service that we have made available to them. We encourage you to help spread the word around campus so that everyone can enjoy what mySavu has to offer.”

“The paramount characteristics for a successful entrepreneur are learning to take risks and being patient,” says Comer. “We’re very fortunate to have an entrepreneurial program that combines entrepreneurship with a student’s other interests and pursuits. Wake Forest offers the kind of help and support for entrepreneurial students that you might expect to see at a school three or four times the size of our University.”

“The entrepreneurship program has helped incubate many entrepreneurial ventures like mySavu.com,” says Varner. “However, our real goal is to incubate entrepreneurs, like Ben and Brett, in a way that will help them to better understand how they can apply the entrepreneurial process to life after Wake Forest.”

Apter and Comer hope that every single student, faculty and staff member at Wake Forest University will learn to take advantage of what all mySavu.com has to offer.
