ICE Excellence Awards

The Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award recognizes an individual (a Wake Forest Alum, Parent or close connection) who has demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, achievement, and social responsibility. This individual receives the prestigious award and delivers an inspirational keynote talk.  The 2016 awardee was Ricky Van Veen '03, co-founder of CollegeHumor, the largest comedy property on the internet and the most viewed comedy channel on YouTube. 

ICE Excellence Awards are also given to students, faculty, and staff for extraordinary achievements in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.  Student awards will recognize individuals who embody the innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial spirit in thought, action and leadership, and/or who have achieved entrepreneurial excellence by launching an outstanding new venture.  Scroll down for nomination forms.

ICE Excellence Awards:

  • The Russell D. and Elfriede Hobbs Faculty Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement: This award is given to a member of the faculty for significant contribution to the ICE program through mentoring and advising, course development or venture development.  It carries a $2,500 prize. 
  • The Russell D. and Elfriede Hobbs Student Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement in a Social Venture:  This award is given to a student or students, graduate or undergraduate, who exemplified the Pro Humanitate spririt by starting a successful venture to make a social difference.  It carries a $2,500 prize.
  • The Russell D. and Elfriede Hobbs Student Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement in a Commercial Venture:  This award is given to a student or students, graduate or undergraduate, who demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence by launching a new venture, or building an existing start-up venture to a new level.  It carries a $2,500 prize.
  • The Chambers Family Fund Student Award for Entrepreneurial Achievement in an Online Venture: This award is given to a student or students, graduate or undergraduate, who demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence by launching or building a new venture in the online or mobile space, or who excelled in online web or app development.  It carries a $500 prize.
  • The ICE Student Award for Excellence in Innovation: This award is given to a student or students, graduate or undergraduate, who demonstrated excellence in innovation.  This innovation can be in a wide range of fields, including but not limited to the arts, the sciences, technology, commercial, and pro humanitate endeavors.  It carries a $500 prize.
  • The Lelia and David Farr Student Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship.  This award is given to a graduating senior, who demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence by launching a new venture, or building an existing start-up venture to a new level, and/or by being a strong leader in developing the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Wake community.  It carries a $500 prize.  The award is given at the Senior Awards Ceremony on Commencement Weekend.
  • The Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Excellence Award:  This award is given to a graduating senior, who demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence by launching a new venture, or building an existing start-up venture to a new level.  It carries a $500 prize.  The award is given at the Senior Awards Ceremony on Commencement Weekend.

Nominations:

In March, The Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship at Wake Forest University will seek nominations for the 2016 Annual ICE Excellence Awards. 

Each year at the ICE Program gives awards to current students (undergraduate and graduate), and faculty and staff in recognition of their achievement in the area of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship.  ICE encourages you to nominate people you think are deserving of these awards.  Self-nomination is permitted.

A list of the awards can be found below.  The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 8, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
