Start-up Funds for Student Companies
Retina Software -- $7,000
Chandler Carruth received an award for Retina Software, an innovative science fiction, action-based computer game with plans to release it on multiple operating platforms.
Justees: For Justice -- $3,000
Designer Martha Napier, a Fifth-Year Kemper Fellow began her company, Justees: For Justice, as an internet-based business through which she sells personalized fashions for the greater good. Justees and their customers give back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to the women's non-profit, "Be Bright Pink," a foundation focused on educating young women on preventative health care to eliminate breast cancer.
YourSportsProfile.com -- $1,500
Vince Vella won an award for his venture YourSportsProfile.com.
College Garage-- $1,000
Will Rawley received a second award for College Garage. College Garage serves as a self-moderated community forum for the University. This site will serve as a location where the community can post announcements about selling items, discuss various topics and issues regarding University life, exchange books, find new musical bands, and exchange ideas.
Out of Line Apparel -- $2,500
Brad Chitty received an award for Out of Line Apparel, a t-shirt company allowing students across the country to share their collegiate experience through t-shirts. OutOfLineApparel.com is a conduit for buying, blogging, and browsing creative college tees designed by the people who know it best -- the students. Through contests, which provide opportunities to win big, students submit t-shirt ideas that are voted upon by the rest of the student population. Through this medium, friends comment on designs, buy shirts, and e-mail others their favorites to share their unique college experience. By providing this creative avenue for merchandise, Out of Line brings student's ideas to life.
Urskinz -- $1,475
Chris Knight received an award for Urskinz. Urskinz sells a semi-permanent, computer-safe sticker with easy removal so that students can feel free to express themselves on their laptops without causing permanent damage. Urskinz launched its website, www.Urskinz.com, to enable online sales and marketing. Eventually, they hope to advertise on Facebook and other affordable venues that will attract the attention of their targeted audience.
Onetwentythree.com -- $1,500
Jack Clayton received another award for his venture Onetwentythree.com.
Chameleon Interactive -- $1,000
Matt Ennis received an award for his venture Chameleon Interactive.
