G. Edward Powell, Jr. is the CEO of IPX which manages Intellectual Property portfolios for leading universities and corporations. In addition, he sits on the Boards of eMD, HVA, and Preverity. Each of these companies applies big data analytics to the healthcare, hospital, and insurance industries. He has been a serial entrepreneur applying various forms of model-based artificial intelligence to assist organizations to optimize financial performance. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery Bell Academy.
For eight years, prior to his move to the commercial sector, Dr. Powell was a Member of the Technical Staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory where he focused on large scale data fusion and the application of Artificial Intelligence to the command and control of surveillance satellites. While in graduate school, he was a Research Assistant at the Center for Space Research and a Fellow of the Large Scale Programs Institute investigating best practices for commercializing government-funded technology and managing large multi-disciplinary scientific programs.
He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and BS in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University. He and his wife have four sons, and they reside in Nashville, Tennessee.
